Stella Nina McCartney is the daughter of former Beatles member Sir Paul McCartney and American photographer and animal rights activist Linda McCartney. A graduate from Central St Martins, Stella McCartney launched her own fashion house under her name in a joint venture with Gucci Group in 2001. Her signature style of sharp tailoring, natural confidence and sexy femininity was apparent in her first collection earned her the spot of Creative Director of Chloé in Paris. Highly successful, one of the things the label is famous for is that some of McCartney’s designs have text that elaborates on her “no animal” policy. Stella does use wool, silk, and other animal-derived fabrics in her designs.
Nonchalant and effortless, that’s the defining characteristic of the Stella McCartney aesthetic; she injects her clothes with an offhand sense of ease. The effortlessness and fluidity of that notion extended into her evening pieces – sexy without trying too hard.
